Description: In the beginning of 2015, e-codices published its third “Call for Collaboration”. This call, published jointly by e-codices and our partner libraries, again attracted a great deal of international interest. After the great response to the first call in June 2009 with 97 applications from 33 scholars, and the overwhelming success of the second call in 2013 with 137 applications from 55 scholars, we have this time received 91 applications from 36 scholars. The scholars again come from a variety of countries: Germany (9), Switzerland (7), United Kingdom (6), the USA (5), Italy (4), France (2), Sweden (1), Armenia (1) and Hungary (1); almost all disciplines of medieval studies are represented. Proposals were for manuscripts from 18 libraries, an especially large number from the Burgerbibliothek Bern (23), the Zentralbibliothek Zürich (12), the Universitätsbibliothek Basel (8), but also from three new collections that have not yet been represented on e-codices. Also suggested were six manuscripts from the Abbey Library of St. Gall, where more than half of the collection of medieval manuscripts has already been made digitally accessible. Such continuing demand clearly shows that, despite the great number of manuscripts that have already been digitized, the scholarly interest has by far not been satisfied. By March 2017, 43 manuscripts from 13 different collections have been published.

This German language composite manuscript probably was created at the Oetenbach Convent of Dominican nuns in Zurich in the beginning of the 15th century. In addition to the liturgical Psalter (for the monastic Liturgy of the Hours, Psalterium feriatum), it also contains the Cantica of the breviary and the Litany of the Saints in German, as well as a prayer. At least since the 17th century, the manuscript has been in the possession of the collegiate church of St. Ursus in Solothurn.

This manuscript was created in the third quarter of the 15th century, probably in the Upper Rhine area or rather Switzerland, as evidenced by the original binding which is decorated with numerous individual stamps. In addition to the translation of the Psalms with commentary, which had earlier been attributed to Heinrich von Mügeln, the manuscript also contains the Cantica of the breviary in German. The circumstances that brought this volume to Solothurn are not known.

This 10th century manuscript contains the works of Horace. It is arranged in such a way as to leave lots of space for marginal glosses next to the poems. These glosses — usually together with interlinear glosses — have been added in a different ink from the main text and by various hands. The localization of the manuscript is uncertain. The only Old High German gloss might have been written in Franconia. The manuscript’s presence in St. Gall is not attested until the middle of the 17th century.

This 6,5 meter long parchment scroll depicts the history of the world, from Adam and Eve up to Christ, as a “Heilsgeschichte” (history of salvation); central events are illustrated with multicolored pen and ink drawings. Representing later epochs up to the middle of the 14th century, tables list the popes up to Innocent IV (elected in 1352) as well as the kings and emperors up to Charles IV.

This study notebook, written in 1567, contains two transcriptions of lectures written by the St. Gall monk Mauritius Enk († 1575), who was studying in Paris: 1) fol. 1r−53r: lectures by Petrus Christinus SJ on Aristotle’s Metaphysics, 2) fol. 56r−130r: lectures by Jacobus Valentinus de Borrasa SJ († 1581) on Metaphysics.

This volume contains four texts: 1. (pp. 1–149) Transcriptions of lectures by Michael Dionysius about the Libri magistri sententiarum (Peter Lombard’s sentences), prepared by Mauritius Enk (1538-1575) of the Abbey of St. Gall. Dionysius began the lectures on 10 December 1565 (p. 1) and discontinued them on 4 February 1566 for want of auditors (p. 149; ob defectum auditorum). 2. (pp. 153–195) Annotationes de immortalitate animae by the Spanish Jesuit Johannes Maldonatus in a transcription by Johannes Ruostaller († 1575) of the Abbey of St. Gall. 3. (pp. 197–203) Notes by Mauritius Enk. 4. (pp. 205–226) Canon law treatise about priests living in relationships similar to marriage (Quid sit sentiendum de concubinariis), written by a later (?) scribe. On p. 220 a short poem in distichs, addressed to priests, (Ad quemvis sacerdotem, Inc. Huc age, tende gradus) with the exhortation to read the booklet repeatedly and to follow the text’s indications.

The manuscript was copied in 1775 by Fr. Romano (Romanus) Fromenwiller for the Prince-Abott Beda Angehrn of Saint Gall most probably at the Abbey of Saint Gall. It is a shortened copy of the two parts from the book Theasaurus linguæ Armenicæ (Արամեան լեզուին գանձ), published by Joachim Schröder in 1711 in Amsterdam. The main content of the manuscript is the Ecclesiæ armenicæ confessio (Part 3 of the Theasaurus linguæ Armenicæ), which is followed by an alphabetical table, accompanied by a transliteration of the Armenian letters into Latin characters, copied from Part 2 of the Theasaurus linguæ Armenicæ.

German Psalter, complete except for one missing leaf at the end: Psalms (pp. 1-164), canticles (pp. 164-178). With few figured initials (dog p. 1, fish p. 141, p. 153 and p. 157). The volume is from the St. Katharinen Convent of Dominican nuns in St. Gall; whether it was written there cannot be determined for certain. Since 1930 it has been in the Abbey Library as a deposit of the episcopal library of St. Gall.
