This Lectionarium officii is a parchment manuscript written in Latin after the mid-thirteenth century. Its origin is unknown, but in the seventeenth century the codex entered the possession of the Cistercian abbey of Wettingen. (ron)

This manuscript contains a Jacobite (syro-orthodox) Rite lectionary, which is missing its beginning and presents several internal lacunae (f. 8v, 14v, and 96v). It ends with a rubricated explicit arranged in an inverted pyramid, without indication of place, date, or the name of the copyist (f. 102v). The leaves that follow (ff. 103r-105v), written in a second, contemporary hand, include rituals, such as the office of the blessing of the water that is held on the vigil of Epiphany (f. 103r-v). It dates from the end of the twelfth or the thirteenth century (cf. W.H.P. Hatch, An Album of Dated Syriac Manuscripts, Boston, 1946, pl. LXXXVIII-XC; written communication from Paul Géhin and Bernard Outtier) and was copied in two columns in Estrangelo, the ancient and classical Syriac script. The gatherings – quinions – are numbered in the middle of the bottom margin, on the recto of the first and on the verso of the last leaf of the gathering (for example, the sixth gathering, numbered ܘ, begins on folio 48r and ends on folio 57v). In keeping with a common practice in the Syriac tradition, the verso of each folio is marked with four dots arranged in a lozenge and aligned with the first line of text. In addition to rubrics, column-sized ornamental bands of interlace structure the text (f. 3r, 29r, 45v, 66r, 75r, 81v, 84r, 95r). (rou)

Two contiguous fragments from the same leaf, which used to be part of a luxury-lectionary of the New Testament, probably copied in Constantinople in the 11th century. The two pieces were later also used for numerous clumsy drawings, graffiti and arithmetic exercises. (and)

Lectionary, produced in the Abbey of St. Gall during the 10th century (before 950). It may have been presented by St. Gall to Einsiedeln on the occasion of the consecration of the church at Einsiedeln in 948, together with Codex 17. (lan)

Cod. 83 is a complete breviary consisting of the following parts: calendar, antiphonary with neume notation, lectionary with biblical readings, homilary containing interpretations by the Church Fathers, hymnal, canticles from the Old and New Testaments, psalter, brief readings, prayers, preces and benedictions. Of special note is the oldest version of the Meinrad Office known to us, which is still used today. The melodies used in the antiphonary belong to the Alemanic choral dialect, still sung in the same form in Einsiedeln in the liturgy of the hours. (lan)

This codex contains Peri hermeneias Aristotelis Libri V as written by Boethius. However, the beginning and end of the work are missing (and have been since the 14th century). The volume displays the work of numerous hands and marginalia added by Heinrich von Ligerz. (lan)

This composite manuscript is datable to the second half of the 10th century. It contains, among other items, the Annales Einsidlenses, Priscian's De grammatica, a fragment of a text on the game of chess, and a calendar with obituary entries up to the 16th century. (ber)

Lectionary from the second half of the 12th century or beginning of the 13th century from a Benedictine monasrtery in the southwestern German region, as indicated by the naming of various saints from this area. This is likely among the manuscripts brought to Hermetschwil by the nuns from the Double monastery of Muri. Adorned with many figured and historiated initials. (ber)

This is the only know work of monogrammist B.G.; it was created in 1557 for Abbot Peter I. Eichhorn (†1563) of Wettingen Abbey. While most of the many initials are based on woodcuts by Bernard Salomon (Quadrins historiques de la Bible, Lyon 1553), the painter composed the decoration of the margins independently and very charmingly with allusions to the name of the client (Eichhorn = squirrel) who commissioned the work as well as to a motif of geese. This missal is from the church of Glatt an der Glatt in Southern Germany, a property of Muri Abbey. It was created in the second half of the 13th century. Numerous marginalia from the 14th-15th century testify that it was intensively used. (szu)

The "Richtebrief", written in or about 1300 is the oldest codex in the collection that was written outside the monastery. It contains laws protecting individuals and regulating business and trade, a series of regulations for ensuring the independence of the city, and laws for the constitution of Schaffhausen. It is likely that the creation of this "Richtebrief" is a result of the political alliances Schaffhausen had built with Zurich, Constance and St. Gall. Thus, the first part of the manuscript follows the model of a document from Constance, while the second follows a model from Zurich. (rue)

The 13th-century manuscript is composed of three parts. The first part contains Aristotelian and pseudo-Aristotelian works in Latin translation. The second part contains 'De mineralibus' and 'De natura loci' by Albertus Magnus. The third part consists of a commentary by Michael Scotus on Johannes de Sacrobosco's work about the heavenly spheres, an anonymous commentary on the Arithmetic of Boethius, and the commentary by Averroës on Aristotle's 'De longitudine et brevitate vitae'. This manuscript is among the finest examples of Italian secular book production from the last third of the 13th century, and it is one of the earlier illuminated Aristotelian manuscripts. (pil)

The codex is a collective volume of different liturgical texts. It contains a gradual with neumes, a calendar with a series of computus tables, a sacramentary, a lectionary, and a ritual. Twelve scribes participated in preparing the manuscript. The manuscript is decorated with two pen-drawings and strapwork initials. The large illuminations display an original iconography. The codex is an example of the transition from individual liturgical books to a missale plenarium. (mut)

This volume, assembled in the 14th century from four originally separate pieces, probably was the missal for the chapel at St. Margrethenberg (Sampans) above Pfäfers. Lectionary from the Abbey of St. Gall with numerous sermons on various Gospel selections by the church fathers, produced by a number of different hands in the 10th century in St. Gall. This little studied volume also contains benedictions and oratory prayers. Appended at the back (in small script in two columns) is a Psalter. The manuscript has become extremely soiled with intensive use; it features assorted addenda and supplements from the 11th and 12th centuries. (smu)

This unadorned manuscript, which was probably not produced in St. Gall, is a double lectionary or Lectionarium plenarium sive "Comes duplex“. The lectionary follows the pericope practice of the city of Rome and contains all the readings for the Mass (Old Testament / Acts of the Apostles, letters and gospels).
