Augustini Hipponensis Fragmentum Sermonis CCCLI

Kurzcharakterisierung: Das Papyrusfragment enthält auf 29 Zeilen mit einer Unzialschrift des späten 7. oder des frühen 8. Jh. geschrieben einen Teil der 351. Predigt von Augustinus (c. 3.6: … agitur in stadio sumus …; cf. PL 39, col. 1542 bis c. 4.7: … exserat seueritatem suam, cf. PL 39, col. 1543). Das Einzelblatt gehörte ursprünglich zu einem Band von mindestens 30 Lagen mit Predigten und Briefen von Augustinus. Heute noch erhalten sind die Lagen 4-11 (mit 63 Blättern + 1 Blatt) und 24-30 (mit 53 Blättern), von denen erstere heute in Paris, BnF lat. 11641 aufbewahrt werden, letztere in der Bibliothèque de Genève, lat. 16. Das vorliegende Blatt gehörte als zweites Bifolium zur 8. Lage (Quinio) und ist in Paris BnF lat. 11641 zwischen f. 26 und f. 27 einzuordnen. Die Marginalie auf der Versoseite stammt von der Hand Florus' von Lyon († ca. 860). (flu)

Schrift und Hände:

in uncial writing of the late 7th century, black ink.
The punctuation (full-stops and commas) is without doubt original. The words were divided in the 8th century.

Spätere Ergänzungen: There is a marginal note on the page left in the 9th century by Flore Diacre.

Inhaltsangabe:

The text begins with: agitur in stadio sumus, … and ends with: exserat seueritate[m] suam, it represents an extract from the 351th Sermon of St. Augustin (MPL XXXIX 1542-1543).

Provenienz der Handschrift:

The Maurists used in their edition the manuscript „Phimarconensis, codex corticeus“ which is identified as Ms. BNF Lat. 11641. During that edition our fragment was placed between ff. 26 and 27.
Montfaucon bought part of this manuscript for the St. Germain Abbey.
In 1791 one folio was acquired by the Russian collector P. P. Dubrovskiy.

Erwerb der Handschrift: In 1805 it was acquired by the Imperial Public Library (now the National Library of Russia) together with his whole collection.
