Rothari, Langobardenreich, König († 652)
Le plus ancien manuscrit conservé de l'Edictum Rothari fragmentaire, recueil de lois du peuple des Lombards, édictées par le roi Rothari (636-652) en 643. Le plus ancien manuscrit datant de 670/680 et provenant probablement de Bobbio, conservé uniquement sous forme de fragments à la Stiftsbibliothek de Saint-Gall, à la Badische Landesbibliothek à Karlsruhe ainsi qu'à la Zentralbibliothek et aux Archives d'Etat de Zurich. La plus grande partie des fragments, qui fut reliée en un volume, en 1822, par le bibliothécaire de la Stiftsbibliothek, Ildefons von Arx, se trouve dans la Stiftsbibliothek de Saint-Gall. En 1972, les fragments de parchemin de l'Edictum-Rhotari de la Stifstbibliothek de Saint-Gall furent réunis dans un nouveau volume, non sans risque pour la conservation, avec des photos en noir-blanc à l'extérieur. De cet ancien furent tirées, en 2008, par le restaurateur Martin Strebel, les photographies et, en même temps, le manuscrit, si important pour l'histoire du droit, put être à nouveau relié, selon les plus récentes connaissances de la restauration de livres, grâce à la prise en charge des frais par le cercle des amis de la Stiftsbibliothek de Saint-Gall.
