Manuscript Summary:This antiphonary (winter part of the temporale), copied by a single hand, has a number of gaps in the text (for example, the beginning is missing). The chants in square notation are separated either by simple alternating blue and red initials, or by larger initials, in part with pen flourishes. In addition, the manuscript is decorated with four historiated initials, from which extend elegant, straight and ringed shafts with gold dots, ending in long, colored leaves that curl and uncurl (f. 54v, 89v, 108v, 210r). In terms of color and style, they are close to late 13th century production in Emilia. Instead of the traditional iconography of King David praying before God, the initial introducing the chant "Domine ne in ira" (f. 108v) depicts a cleric with tonsure – St. Francis or a Franciscan? –, which probably refers to the fact that the manuscript was intended for the use by the Minorites. Both the monastery for which the manuscript was originally intended and its later provenance history are unknown. This copy can at most be associated with one other manuscript from the State Archives of Valais, the Franciscan gradual AVL 506; both works were bound in the same workshop in the 18th century, which likely is an indication of their common origin. Foliation: Keine alte Foliierung. Tintenfoliierung des 17./18. Jhs. 5-241 mit folgenden Fehlern: 49 bis, 50 bis, 102 bis, 137 bis, 206 bis, 232 bis, 234 bis. Die von mir angefügte Bleistiftfoliierung stimmt mit der Tintenfoliierung überein. Folgende mitgezählte Blätter fehlen: 1-4, 10, 79, 158-167, 189-196.
Collation: Zusammensetzung: V(-1.2.3.9) (11), 6 V (69), V(-10)(78), 8 V (157), [V fehlt= 158-167], 2 V (187), V(-2 bis 9) (197), 4 V (234bis), V(-8.9.10) (241). Keine Kustoden oder Reklamanten.
Condition: Pergament wenig abgegriffen, aber in neuerer Zeit beschnitten. Keine Risse und Löcher. Gleichmäßiger Schnitt (roh). Die ersten und letzten Blätter zerknittert.
Page layout:
Liniierung mit blindem oder braunem Griffel: Für die Textzeile je eine Doppellinie, von denen das oberste und unterste Paar von Rand zu Rand reicht. Je eine vertikale Spiegelbegrenzung von Rand zu Rand. Zirkelstiche nur am inneren Rande sichtbar. Spiegel 370 x 240-255 mm.

Musical notation: Text in 8 Langzeilen mit Quadratnotation auf 4 roten Linien.
Decoration:
Die ausgedehnten Rubriken mit gewöhnlicher Tinte in kleinerer Schrift, rot unterstrichen. Braune Tinte. Kleine Rubriken rubriziert.
Textmajuskeln rot gestrichelt.
Cadellen mit Federstrichverzierung (fleuronartig) und roter Strichelung.
Am Anfang von Antiphonen- und Responsorienreihen etwas größere rot/blau spationierte Fleuroninitialen, z. T. mit einfacher Randleiste.
Zwei Zeilen hohe Deckfarbeninitialen mit Miniaturen und Zierleiste aus Ranken:

(210r) In die qua invocavi, Heiliger mit Buch in der Hand.
Binding: Einband des 18. Jhs. aus 2 Holzdeckeln (520 x 360 mm), VD gebrochen. Überzug aus dunkelbraunem Leder mit Streicheisen- und Rollenverzierung. Auf beiden Deckeln je 5 muschelförmige Eisenbuckel. Spuren von 2 Langriemenschließen vom VD zum RD. 6 Bünde. Kapital verloren. Einband in schlechtem Zustand: RD von den Bünden abgetrennt, VD noch am untersten Bund hängend. Leder abgegriffen und an den Kanten losgelöst. Keine Besitzervermerke. Einband aus dem gleichen Atelier wie der von AVL 506. Im VD Fragment eines Druckes (Psalter).
