, De Doctrina Christiana
Place of origin: St. Gall

Support:
Parchment
Extent:
278 pp (276 + 41a-b)
Format: 16.2-4 x 24.5-6 cm
Collation:
Contemporary quire signatures, possibly in the hand of one of the two main scribes, are visible from p. 148 ('I') to p. 276 ('VIIII'); the remains of a different run of signatures are visible on p. 90 ('VI') and p. 122 ('VIII'); the quires are generally quaterniones, but pp. 123-134 appear to be a ternio (Bruckner indicates that pp. 121-134 is a quinio, which is almost certainly an error). [This foliation based on Bruckner, supplemented by examination of the page-images.]
Condition: Old holes in the parchment, which is arranged HFHF and FHFH. White flesh side, yellowish hair side.
Page layout:
Single column, 21 lines per page. Written area 13.2 (or 11.5) by 17.5-7 cm. (Bruckner)
Writing and hands: Two hands in a neat minuscule, in black and rust coloured ink. One ninth-century annotation on p. 2. (Bruckner)
Decoration: Titles in red rustics. Red initials.
Additions:
Table of contents from the fifteenth century on p. 2 (De dilectione...'). Some later marginalia, perhaps by Ekkehart IV, and by a humanist hand of the sixteenth century, p. 65, 80, 84, 85 etc..
Binding:
In a yellow-gray leather binding of the fifteenth century. Three frets, two leather closures of braided leather with brass plates, brass pins on the front cover. Front cover note (s. XV): Quatuor libri de doctrina christiana Aurelii Augustini episcopi. Listed in several St Gall catalogues: CSG 728 (s. IX), p. 8 (ed. Lehmann, MBKDS, p. 74.8); CSG 267 + 614 (s. IX), ed.
