Godescalcus, Aquensis (1010/1120-1098)
Questa Quaestio discussa dall'agostiniano Johannes von Paltz (intorno al 1445-1511) è una perfetta spiegazione di uno dei metodi di lavoro della scolastica medievale. Redatto ad Erfurt nell'estate del 1486, tratta della confutazione di tre errori. Il primo riguarda coloro che "pretendono di poter calcolare e prevedere la data del Giudizio universale". Sembra che questo documento sia l'unica versione manoscritta di questo testo, conosciuta d'altra parte grazie a due edizioni a stampa del XV secolo. Franz Xaver Karker (1812-1892), canonico della cattedrale di Breslau (ora Wroclaw in Pologna), ha donato quest'opera alla biblioteca friburghese.

Piccolo ma corposo (198 cc.) libro di preghiere in lingua tedesca, nella variante della Germania del nord («mittelniederdeutsch») e, vista la forma femminile di molte orazioni, destinato ad una donna. Tranne una miniatura a piena pagina raffigurante Cristo nel ruolo di giardiniere al cui cospetto si presenta Maria Maddalena (Noli me tangere), le altre miniature sono state asportate. Un ex-libris all'interno della coperta anteriore informa che il codicetto è stato donato alla biblioteca di Friburgo nel 1891 da Franz Xaver Karker, canonico della cattedrale di Breslau.

Si tratta del più antico gruaduale completo e con notazione che si sia conservato, con diverse aggiunte (come i versetti per l'Alleluia, antifone e versetti salmodici per le antifone del communio). Essendo il graduale completo, questo manoscritto è ancora oggi di grande importanza per la ricerca sul canto gregoriano. La seconda parte è costituita dal Libyer Ymnorum, ossia dalle sequenze di Notkero di S. Gallo. Nuove ricerche hanno confermato che il codice è stato scritto ad Einsiedeln intorno al 960-970, certamente per il terzo abate del monastero, l'inglese Gregor.

Il codice, scritto da più mani, contiene un commento anonimo alle lettere cattoliche (Stegmüller, Repertorium Biblicum, n. 3235, 14-20). Non è convincente l'attribuzione di Stegmüller a un Hermann, monaco di S. Gallo, che sarebbe stato allievo di Abelardo (cfr. David Luscombe, Sententie magistri Petri Abaelardi, Turnhout 2006, pp. 49*-55*). Il commento è preceduto da due prologhi (pp. 1-2), il primo dei quali è basato sul prologo dell'Epistola ai Romani di Pietro Abelardo (Stegmüller, RB 6378), mentre il secondo è tratto dallo Pseudo-Gerolamo (Stegmüller, RB 809). I commenti alle singole lettere sono preceduti rispettivamente da una panoramica dei capitoli e da un argumentum tratto dalla Glossa ordinaria (in PL 114, col. 671 ss. come opera di Walafrido Strabone). Il testo delle lettere è incorporato nel commento e contrassegnato con virgolette a margine. Nell'ultima pagina (p. 112) si trova la sequenza di Godescalcus di Aquisgrana sulla festa della Conversio sancti Pauli, Inc. Dixit dominus ex Basan convertam. La decorazione si limita a iniziali rosse di due e tre righe. Il manoscritto presenta una legatura floscia in pelle bianca con una fodera di pergamena, chiusa da una ribalta triangolare. All'interno della coperta e a p. 112 reca il timbro della biblioteca dell'epoca dell'abate Diethelm Blarer (1553-1564), e a p. 1 la segnatura della Burgerbibliothek di Berna (Manuscr A 48). Secondo le annotazioni riportate all'interno della coperta e a p. 1, il codice, giunto a Berna nel 1712 (come bottino della guerra del Toggenburgo), fu restituito alla biblioteca abbaziale di S. Gallo nel 1863.

Elegante codice vergato in scrittura umanistica commissionato da papa Leone X († 1521). Lo stemma dei Medici campeggia al centro dei piatti della legatura originale, nel ricco fregio che decora il frontespizio, e nelle iniziali alle cc. 3v e 134v. La decorazione è attribuita al celebre miniatore fiorentino Attavante degli Attavanti († 1525) o alla sua cerchia. Proviene dalla collezione Major J.R. Abbey.

Frammento di un breviario in glagolitico con testi riguardanti il 13 ed il 14 agosto, che può essere databile, sulla base della scrittura, al XV secolo. Appartenne a Franz Miklosich (1813-1891), uno dei più importanti slavisti della sua epoca, e giunse quale dono alla “Collezione antiquaria” di Basilea, predecessore del Museo storico di Basilea.
